Rhythm

Our God is a God of order. From the rising and setting of the sun, to the changing of the seasons, to the design of a seashell and pinecone--His intentional patterns are woven throughout creation since the First Garden. Children thrive in rhythm because it is woven into their nature as they are made in His image. The children can receive rhythm perhaps even better than us as they are closer to their fresh beginnings of life. Our most important task as parents and care-givers is nurturing spiritual rhythms that in turn encourages lives reflecting the Original Design. As we strive to become more like Him, each day is a gift of new mercies and Truth, impacting lives for eternity.

The rhythm of Yarah incorporates both out-breaths and in-breaths. Children will ebb and flow between grounding activities that induce peace and nourishment such as gardening and working with herbs, to daily movement and risk-play such as archery and chopping wood. The balance of having both in-and-out experiences promotes health and well-being as God intended for all of our bodies.

Risk Play + Hard Work

Risk play is an essential pillar of the Yarah experience. We believe that adventurous learning in a thoughtfully supervised environment gives children the freedom to test their limits, build physical confidence, and develop judgment, problem-solving skills, and resilience.

Whether climbing trees, whittling wood, shooting arrows, or navigating the natural obstacles of our wild property, children learn to assess risk, face challenges, recover from failure, and discover the capabilities God has given them.

We believe children are created to contribute and cultivate. Hard work is not something we seek to remove from childhood, but an important part of growing into capable, grounded human beings. Through gardening, caring for animals, building, cleaning, and tending our shared spaces, children experience the dignity and satisfaction of meaningful work. In the spirit of Eden, where God entrusted humanity to tend and keep the garden, we seek to nurture children who understand that their hands, effort, and gifts have a meaningful place in the world.

Infrastructure

Yarah Youth meets an a 1/3 acre wild urban property centrally located in West Spokane Valley. It is a fully-fenced private lot donned with fruit trees, wild herbs and flowers.

We embrace the thorns of life -- from the roses, blackberries, black locusts and more, we believe in doing life along side the untamed rawness of Creation.

Yarah features:

  • canvas teepee
  • archery zone
  • chicken coop
  • prayer path
  • treehouse
  • learning circle
  • geodome
  • children’s garden beds
  • compost outhouse

Gear

There is no bad weather, only bad gear. The gear we wear to Yarah is of utmost importance. Yarah requires each student wear both gender and weather-appropriate clothing. Long pants and closed-toed shoes will be worn year round. Please refer to our Family Handbook after signing up to ensure specific gear guide for optimum enjoyment for all.
